While the Wye Valley itself is fairly isolated, parts of it are close to major motorways. The mouth of the Wye at Chepstow actually passes under the 'old' Severn Bridge, which in turn carries the M48 (an 'old' part of the M4 motorway). The M4 runs from London to past Swansea in South Wales.
Ross on Wye is near the start of the M50, which in turn joins the M5 motorway.
To see the how well traffic is flowing on the M4 motorway, there are webcams in various locations which are updated every 5 minutes. For the M4 at the Severn Bridge look at the BBC websites for South Wales and Bristol. (Just click on one of the symbols representing the webcams along the motorway).
